Rodgers has unveiled a revolutionary change in
its business process that allows the customisation of virtually
every feature of a digital organ, including every stop of every
division.
The new Rodgers Organ Architect system means that each instrument
can be configured to the buyers unique specification. This might
be as simple as changing one or two stops, or as involved as
altering an entire specification with customised tabs, pistons,
and even rearranging the drawknobs on the console.
Executive Vice President of Rodgers USA, Lloyd Robbins, called
the move a bold but necessary step away from the industry’s
long-standing practice of building primarily stock models: “People
are coming to expect variations and flexibility when they order
durable goods, especially expensive items such as classical
organs.”
By placing Rodgers Organ Architect on the internet, Rodgers
has become the first organ manufacturer to permit the full range
of functions and sounds to be selected online, with the assistance
of Rodgers staff. At the click of a mouse, customers can choose
among more than 1,000 options including wood finishes, music
racks, benches, keyboards, drawknob types, piston functions
and voices.
A part of the development of Rodgers Organ Architect, Rodgers
engineers built an entirely new platform using the Linux operating
system, which is known for its power and flexibility. Features
of the new technology include remote voicing capability, direct
Ethernet connection to a laptop computer for system updates
and diagnostics, and easy-to-read internal system operation
indicators.
